Traditionally, women performed unskilled / manual work in the construction industry and that has now drastically reduced due to mechanization. Lack of skills in other trade-craft prevents women from shifting to other work within the construction industry. Similarly, domestic workers working in house-holds are unable to access skill upgradation so that they can transition to higher paid jobs in the hospitality industry. We are undertaking skill upgradation of woman construction workers and domestic workers to increase their employability and earning potential. Such skill programmes are usually of six months duration. Cost for one month of skill upgradation programme: Trainer’s salary – Rs. 8,000 Rent & utilities – Rs. 12,000 Consumables / Training material – Rs. 7,500 Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material – Rs. 7,500 Total cost for one month of skill upgradation programme for 35 women – Rs. 35,000 Cost for one month programme for one woman – Rs. 1,000 Cost for 6 months programme for one woman – Rs. 6,000
